History
The second oldest music organization in Lexington, the Chamber Music Society of Central Kentucky, was formed in the 1950s as a performance/learning association.
After its incorporation in 1971 as a non-profit organization, the emphasis has been on presenting nationally and internationally known groups, including the Budapest String Quartet, the Beaux Arts Trio, the Newberry Consort, and the Alexander Quartet.
The purpose of the Society is to foster and promote chamber music in Central Kentucky. The organization remains the only one in the area devoted exclusively to the presentation of music written for small chamber ensembles.
In addition to sponsoring concerts, the Society has initiated outreach programs of demonstration concerts and master classes for students featuring our series artists.
